Have you ever read such an inspirational and uplifing book that you want capture all of those motivational words and inspirational sayings that were written? That’s how I felt when I read the book called ‘Girl, Wash Your Face’ by Rachel Hollis. I heard a lot of great things about this book and just had to get my hands on it.
The book has lots of great messaging, positive reminders and affirmations. I wanted to capture it all! That’s how I got the idea for this project – a do it yourself quote art project. This project is very versatile and can be adapted in many ways.
- Book with Inspirational Quotes
- Art Journal/Bullet Journal
- Tombow Mono Drawing Pens
- Empty Container to Hold Water
- Paint Brush
Step 1: Pick Out Your Favourite Motivational Quotes
This is your chance to revisit your favourite parts of the book and pick out those life quotes that you absolutely love. You can keep track of these by folding the corner of the page or using sticky tabs.
Step 2: Write Down All Of The Quotes That You Love
In my bullet journal, I started by lettering the title and author’s name of the book. I used the Tombow Mono Drawing pen to create some faux calligraphy. Underneath, I wrote down each of the quotes by making a list. To create some interest, I alternated between print and handwriting using the Tombow Mono Drawing pen.
Tip: Pick a two page spread for this project. Write down the quotes on the right hand side and create your inspirational quote art on the left hand side.
Step 3: Lettering Your Favourite Motivational Quote
I picked the quote that resonated with me the most and lettered this using the Tombow Mono Drawing pen. I used different lettering styles to achieve this – faux calligraphy, handwriting, serif. The inspirational quote that I chose is, ‘ You have the power’. Such a moving and positive reminder!
Step 4: Create Some Doodles/Art
Once you are happy with your quote art, you can start drawing some doodles around the lettering. I went for flowers as I love to draw them! You can use any medium that you want. For this project I used the Color-In Watercolour Crayons. I drew my flowers first and then activated the colour with water. Once dried, I used the Tombow Mono Drawing pen to outline the flowers. I also decided to add leaves and other details to really make the art pop. Other watercolours I would recommend using are the Tombow Dual Brush Pens or the Artist Loft Watercolour set.
You could take this project one step further and create beautiful wall art or canvas art using life quotes, motivational quotes or positive quotes. You could even do a project involving painting inspirational quotes or create art using famous quotes. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating art using quotes! I would love to see if you complete this project or other projects similar to this. Tag me using @letteringbyusha and I’ll be sure to check it out.
